TMT Bar Weight Calculator – Formula & Reference

Formula for Calculating TMT Bar Weight

The standard formula to calculate the TMT bar weight is:

W= 6*6*1/162 =162D2×L

Where,

  • W = Weight of Steel Bar (kg)
  • D = Diameter of Steel Bar (mm)
  • L = Length of Steel Bar (meter)

Example Calculation

  • Diameter of TMT Bar = 6 mm
  • Length of TMT Bar = 1 meter

W= 6*6*1/162 =0.222kg

Thus, the weight of a 6mm TMT bar of 1 meter length = 0.222 kg.

Key Points About TMT Bar Weight :

Standard Length: All TMT bars are generally manufactured in 12-meter rods.

Tolerance as per IS Standard: As per IS 1786:2008, the tolerance of TMT bars must strictly adhere to IS guidelines.

Available Diameters: TMT bars are available in different diameters – 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 32 mm.

Weight Units: TMT bar weight can be expressed in Kilograms (kg), Quintals (1 Quintal = 100 kg), or Tons (1 Ton = 1000 kg).
